Men who use prescribed testosterone medications should beware—they may be at risk of serious health complications caused by these drugs. Recently published medical studies have found that testosterone medications are linked to higher risk of stroke, heart attack (myocardial infarction) and death in certain types of patients. Due to these study findings, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert on January 31, 2014, that is investigating FDA-approved testosterone products. If you have been harmed as a result of taking a prescribed testosterone medication (or if a loved one died because of such use), you may be able to seek compensation from the maker of the testosterone drug.

At A Good Law Firm, we are prepared to assist clients with lawsuits concerning various types of testosterone drugs. While these medications are only approved for use in men who are diagnosed with medical conditions that cause a lack of testosterone or low testosterone, there is a lot of inappropriate advertising by testosterone drug companies that leads to off-label use of these drugs. There are also many cases in which drug makers fail to properly warn patients of the health risks associated with their products. Our Springfield testosterone litigation attorney can help you prove your case in court and fight for compensation for the damages caused by these forms of drug company negligence!
According to the FDA alert, the first publication that raised the agency's alarm over testosterone drugs was an observational study that was published in November 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The men who were tested in this study were male patients in the U.S. Veteran Affairs health system who were about 60 years old, on average. Many of them suffered from underlying cardiovascular disease. This study found that the men who took prescribed testosterone medication had a 30% higher risk of stroke, heart attack and death.
In a second observational study, it was shown that the risk of heart attack doubled in men age 65 and older who underwent testosterone therapy. Furthermore, the testosterone therapy doubled to tripled the risk of heart attack in younger men under the age of 65 who already suffered from heart disease. In both groups, the increased risk was found within 90 days of the patients' first subscriptions for testosterone medication.
